Zhouyi, traditionally known in the West as the I Ching or Book of Changes, is one of the oldest and most profound classics in Chinese cultural history, honored as the "first among all classics." It is far more than a "divination manual" for prediction; it is a "book of philosophy" containing cosmology, social theory, views on human life, and incipient dialectical thought. Its conceptual system, with Yin and Yang at its core and Change as its fundamental principle, has deeply influenced philosophy, ethics, politics, science, and art across China and East Asia. From Divination to Philosophy
The Zhouyi was compiled over a long period, not by a single author. Its content consists primarily of two parts:

The Commentaries (The Ten Wings): During the Spring & Autumn and Warring States periods, Confucian scholars, with whom Confucius is traditionally associated, provided philosophical interpretations of the core text. 3. The Philosophy of Change: The word Yi itself means "change." It views the cosmos as being in a state of perpetual flux. The principle that "exhaustion leads to change, change leads to penetration, penetration leads to duration" teaches a dynamic, developmental perspective on problems, urging one to grasp opportunities within transformation.
4. Symbolic and Numerical Thinking: It employs hexagram symbols (xiang) and numerical calculations (shu) to represent and model the patterns of change in the universe. This constitutes a unique mode of abstract thinking and logical deduction.
